CAROL A. FARQUHAR
Executive Director Grantmakers In Aging Carol Farquhar is the first full-time Executive Director for Grantmakers in Aging (GIA), an educational nonprofit membership organization for leading staff and trustees from all sizes and types of foundations involved directly or indirectly with aging. It is the only international professional organization of grantmakers active in the field of aging. Through educational activities, programs and publications, GIA serves its members’ needs as a national resource center on aging. Networking and collaboration are the cornerstones of GIA’s work in the philanthropic community. The mission of GIA is to Promote And Strengthen Grantmaking For An Aging Society. In 2005, under the leadership of Ms. Farquhar, Grantmakers In Aging was the recipient of the prestigious National Council on the Aging’s Arthur Fleming Award. This award is presented annually to organizations that have established powerful partnerships by building bridges between the public and private sectors so the elderly are able to weather life’s unpredictable changes. Prior to this appointment in 1999, Ms. Farquhar held the position of Program Officer at the Kettering Foundation based in Dayton, Ohio. The Kettering Foundation is an operating foundation with research focused on learning how democracy can work better. As Program Officer she managed numerous programs aimed at involvement of older adults in public policy issue discussions, created collaborative projects, and represented the Foundation at local, state, and national philanthropic activities. She currently serves on the boards of Antioch University McGregor School; National Issues Forums Institute; Dade Fund, Miami, FL; Global Village Communications, Inc; and is co-chair of the National Affinity Group Steering Committee, Council on Foundations. She is a Former Chair of the Board of Trustees and one of the original Founders of the Ohio Grantmakers Forum. Ms. Farquhar received her Bachelor of Arts in humanities at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio. |
