Throughout the world, architectural and cultural heritage is increasingly threatened and often lost. Leading the private sector response, WMF partners with local communities to preserve sites of historic and artistic significance in places as varied as Angkor (Cambodia), Pompeii (Italy), and Mayan temples in Mexico. WMF offers expertise as well as funds, and helps to train young people. The biennial World Monuments Watch draws attention to 100 endangered sites around the globe.
