Robert B. Stang


Biography
Robert B. Stang is a third generation real estate developer. He has over 40 years
of experience in real estate development, financing, construction and management experience which he uses to identify and implement opportunities for sustainable development. As the Managing Partner, he formed ReNEWal Realty, LLC in early 1997. Renewal won awards for Smart Growth Design of Willingboro Town Center in 2002 from New Jersey Futures and from the Regional Planning Partnership. ReNEWal buys environmentally contaminated sites and redevelops them in a sustainable way. Bob and his family moved to Santa Fe in 2001.

Since studying with Buckminster Fuller in 1967, Bob's avocation has been ecological thinking. He founded Living Earth Realty Corp. in the summer of 1990, enabling him to integrate his passion for the environment with his business acumen. The mission of Living Earth is to enhance the real estate environment by emphasizing practical solutions, fiscally sound measures and environmental innovations also known as sustainable development. From 1992-1995 Bob formed an energy management company and retrofitted 1,500,000 square feet of buildings in New York City.

From 1977 through 1990, Bob was President and co-founder of M.J. Raynes, Inc., a major NYC real estate organization. Prior to Raynes, Bob spent 12 years in the real estate, construction and development business. He was involved in some of the most complex real estate transactions in New York City. He was an independent general contractor for his own account and a developer of his family's properties.

Bob graduated from the New School for Social Research in New York City with a B.A. in Community Planning. He received his M.B.A. from New York University Graduate School of Business Administration. Living Earth is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and Bob was Chairman of the USGBC Committee for Building Change. ReNEWal is a member of the Social Venture Network and the Environmental Business Association of New York. Bob is on the board and chairman of the Audit Committee of the Environmental Law Institute, a Washington, DC active non-profit which studies and advocates law, policy and management changes to. He also served on the board of the Santa Fe Railyard Community Corporation. In 2005 he was a founding member of New Voice of Business in San Francisco. He was co-chair of Governor Richardson’s Infrastructure Finance Team which is advising the Governor’s Finance Council on Statewide Infrastructure improvements in excess of $20 Billion.
