HRW investigates human rights problems around the world, seeks to change abusive policies, and works to protect local human rights advocates, who are the front line of the movement. HRW's definition of human rights extends from war crimes to the rights of street children. Its women's rights division deals with reproductive and sexual rights, labor rights including trafficking of women, the feminization of HIV/AIDS, and violence against women by family members or the state.
