Ashoka Fellow, Willy Pessoa (Brazil) OverviewAshoka is leading a profound transformation in society. Over the past 25 years, Ashoka has identified and invested in over 1,800 leading social entrepreneurs in 60 countries. Our Fellows power social change in communities around the world, impacting the lives of millions. Ashoka accelerates change by connecting Fellows to a global network of social entrepreneurs. Ashoka creates needed infrastructure for this network, including access to social financing and bridges to business and academic sectors. MissionAshoka strives to shape a global, entrepreneurial, competitive citizen sector: one that allows social entrepreneurs to thrive and enables the world’s citizens to think and act as changemakers. ProgramsAshoka works on three levels. First, we support individual social entrepreneurs—financially and professionally—throughout their life cycle. Second, we bring communities of social entrepreneurs together to help leverage their impact, scale their ideas, and capture and disseminate their best practices. Finally, we help build the infrastructure and financial systems needed to support the growth of the citizen sector and facilitate the spread of social innovation globally.
ImpactAshoka has helped change the lives of millions around the world through its Fellows, programs, and staff. For example, Ashoka Fellow Fabio Rosa has helped cut rural electrification costs by 70-80% in Brazil and brought electricity to over 1 million people. Fabio's innovation has spread to 23 countries. More broadly, our Measuring Effectiveness Study shows that five years post election, 94% of Fellows are still working towards their original vision and 93% of Fellows have had their work independently replicated. Ten years post election, 71% of Fellows have influenced national policy. FinancialChanging The Present will soon provide financial information on nonprofit organizations. |
