Problem
Twenty-one children die every minute because of malnutrition and preventable diseases. The need for sustainable sources of high-nutrient-content foods is critical in reducing mortality and providing a healthy start for generations of children in the world's poorest countries.
The Gift
Your gift can train one woman to produce a highly nutritious food supplement to fight hunger.
Everybody knows the adage of giving a man a fish versus teaching a man to fish. When IMC teaches a woman to grow, harvest, process, and sell therapeutic food, the result is that entire communities "learn to fish." In this program, women join with their neighbors to grow, harvest, and grind peanuts. The peanut paste is then mixed with oil, sugar, and powdered vitamins to produce a highly nutritious food that can be fed to children at home and/or sold to humanitarian groups who then distribute this surplus to other communities. Women use these profits to sustain and expand their new businesses.
