Problem
Homeless veterans usually need a variety of services and are not always aware of the kind of help that is available, much less whom to contact to request assistance. Many veterans find it difficult to ask for help. NCHV guidebooks allow veterans to assess their needs privately, refer them to VA benefits counselors, and put them in contact with local agencies that can provide assistance.
The Gift
This gift will produce 5 guidebooks that show homeless and at-risk veterans where they can find the help they need, and from whom. These guidebooks direct veterans to housing, employment services, income assistance, health services and personal counseling, and VA counselors who can help them receive the benefits they have earned.
The guides include a self assessment checklist to help veterans plan their problem solving efforts, a list of community and VA resources they may contact for assistance, and instructions on how to locate veteran service providers and organizations in their communities.
