Problem

Orphans International Haiti was established after Hurricane Jeanne devastated the region in September 2004. As the poorest county in the western hemisphere, rice is a staple food in Haiti and due to the importing of American rice, its price is rising. Food prices in Haiti have caused riots and “rice wars”. One of the children of Orphans International Haiti is quoted as saying “if you are going downtown bring a knife”. As the price of rice raises the portions for the children get smaller.
