Problem

Koalas are in decline due to loss of habitat, predation by domestic dogs, and disease. The San Diego Zoo has the largest koala population and the most successful koala breeding program outside of Australia. Our researchers have long been dedicated to koala conservation and have made significant advances in understanding their biology through innovative studies involving our colony of 20 koalas at the San Diego Zoo.

The Gift

Your gift will outfit wild koalas with custom-made GPS (Global Positioning System) collars so that our researchers can follow individual koalas in the wild. This work will help to establish a solid scientific understanding of how foraging strategies influence reproductive success in nature, as well as document factors that determine koala distribution and population abundance throughout Australia.
