With no diploma and a criminal record, it is extremely difficult for released prisoners to find gainful employment and become productive citizens. For these prisoners with low literacy skills, a dictionary is the difference between understanding the book you're reading and not. It's the key to educating and improving yourself while in prison.

By providing a good dictionary to one prisoner, you are giving him a chance to earn a GED, improve reading skills, find gainful employment upon release and shut the revolving door of crime and prison behind him.
