Africa’s economic growth is impaired by extremely low levels of foreign direct and domestic investment. It is also a marginal participant in the global trading arena. Expansion of U.S. support for trade capacity building, trade promotion, and increasing rural access to financial markets is critical, as is increased direct interaction with serious U.S. private investors.
