Problem
In sub-Saharan Africa, 24 million girls can't afford to go to school. The cost of textbooks, school supplies, required uniforms and school fees are far more than most families can afford. Without an education, a girl may marry as young as 13 and has a one in 22 chance of dying in childbirth. One in six of her children will die before the age of five.
The Gift
Research shows if you educate a girl she’ll earn up to 25 percent more future income; be three times less likely to become HIV-positive; have fewer, healthier children.
Girls are most at risk of dropping out of school at the high school level, when required school fees increase dramatically. To help, Camfed provides full high school scholarships, covering everything from books to shoes, to the neediest girls in the community. Your gift will provide a girl with funding of her scholarship for three months, allowing her to stay in school and succeed.
