Problem
Africa is the poorest continent in the world with the highest exclusion rate of children from education. These two facts are inextricably linked and prevent the economic progress of the continent. For girls, the problems of educational exclusion are most acute. They want to go to school. Their parents want them to go school. But there is no money for clothing, shoes, books and stationery.
The Gift
CAMFED’s programs support girls to complete school in some of the poorest regions of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania. We then work hand in hand with educated young women to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and leaders.
It has been shown that for every additional year of education, a woman’s income increases, her vulnerability to HIV/AIDS drops significantly and her risk of dying in childbirth falls. Educated women have smaller and healthier families: in Africa, children of mothers who receive 5 years of primary education are 40% more likely to live beyond the age of 5.
Make a donation to CAMFED’s work in the name of a loved one and invest in Africa’s future through the education and empowerment of its girls today.
