Problem

Historically, people with disabilities have been excluded from important policy discussions and decisions. At the heart of successful social change is deep involvement by those most profoundly affected. Community organizing builds awareness of current issues among local, regional and national groups, strengthens individual commitment and involvement and inspires and fosters leadership. Community organizing is ongoing at DREDF, responding to new and developing issues and maintaining watchful vigilance on those that continue from year to year.

The Gift

Your contribution will enable a community organizer to meet for up to five hours with a local group of people with disabilities who want to change, for example, a transportation, voting, or healthcare policy or practice, or fix a problem in their community. This interaction will include an analysis of the issue(s), development of step-by-step action strategies, and a plan for media involvement.
