Rural communities in many regions of Africa face a dire situation: limited basic resources, few economic opportunities, marked inequalities, and drastic health challenges. Yet Tostan has shown that these often dynamic communities also have a wealth of culture and positive traditions that can allow them to transform their situation when given the knowledge, skills, experience to do so.
