Problem

About 20% of families in Travis County are classified as “working poor”. Education is so important to the future of our children and communities at large. Many people in our community cannot afford clothes or school supplies for their children. Arriving at school totally unprepared can be devastating for a child, but a successful first day of school sets an upbeat tone for the entire coming school year.

The Gift

Your gift will subsidize the cost of two new outfits, (including 2 tops, 2 sets of shorts, pants or 2 skirts, socks and underwear), and a backpack with the grade appropriate school supplies for one child. Having prepared 9,232 children for the first day of school since 2000, Manos de Cristo has set a goal this year of serving 1700 pre-K through 5th graders. These gifts will help insure a successful first day of school for these children.
