Countless women around the world live with no income of their own, and no access to education or employment. Animal husbandry at home or as part of a women's collective is often the simplest, most sustainable way for a woman to build her own business.

The Gift

When you help a woman with few prospects to earn an income or establish her independence, you are, in fact, buying her a future. Goat husbandry is practiced around the world, from tsunami-wracked villages in Indonesia to earthquake-damaged mountainside settlements in Pakistan. Goats require little space and a reasonable amount of care, so that even a busy mother can manage the task. When she begins to earn an income, she not only has the ability to provide balanced meals for her children and buy necessities such as medicine and clothing, but can buy additional goats to grow her business.
