Villagers living in rural African communities face daily challenges to their health and well-being, including limited basic resources, few economic opportunities, marked inequalities, and drastic health challenges. Yet Tostan has shown that these often dynamic individuals also have a wealth of culture and positive traditions that can allow them to transform their situation when given the knowledge, skills, and experience to do so.
