Problem
In September 2004, Hurricane Jeanne caused major flooding and mudslides in the city of Gonaives, west of the capital Port-au-Prince. Over 3,000 people were confirmed dead, and every building in the city was damaged. OI Haiti OI Haiti is committed to the welfare of the twelve children living at the Haiti House. Haiti is the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, and in order to fulfill OI’s mission of creating global citizens we send our children to the best school in the area.
The Gift
Our children receive around-the-clock care, and emotional support from our local staff. Your donation will allow one child go to school for one year. Nearly all the children were several years behind in school before coming to live at the Haiti House. OI Haiti is committed to its mission of creating global citizens, so not only do all the children attend school full time but also receive additional instruction at home. To us, $200 a year for private school seems like a small amount but with high inflation rates and 80 percent of the population under the poverty line, OIWW needs help to provide a bright future for our children.
