Problem

Kosovo was torn apart by war and ethnic conflict during the 1990s. Since that time, the province has struggled to rebuild. Today, more than 220,000 people remain displaced from their homes in Kosovo. Fear of violence and limited employment opportunities have kept these families from returning. While the international community often supports rebuilding houses, little is done to help reintegrate these families back into the social, political and economic life of their communities.

The Gift

Partners is working in multi-ethnic towns and villages across Kosovo with newly-returned families and with the rest of the community to help heal the wounds of war and create practical economic opportunities for all residents. With unemployment in rural areas running close to 50%, formerly displaced families will find it impossible to stay in their homes in the long term without assistance, and their communities will find it difficult to offer a welcoming and safe environment for their return.

Your donation will provide support to families returning to their homes in Kosovo. Partners will help families prepare for their return home and work with their home communities to address safety concerns, establish local conflict resolution services, and stimulate job creation.
