Moldova, a small country between Romania and Ukraine and a former republic of the Soviet Union, is the poorest country in Europe. Since the fall of Communism, Moldova has experienced economic decline, drought, civil conflict and rampant corruption. The average income is about a dollar a day, which means hunger, cold, miserable living conditions, and poor health for many families. Your contribution will empower average citizens with the tools they need to improve their communities.

The Gift

One of the biggest contributors to poverty in Moldova is corruption, which is rampant in government and business. Most interactions with government requires bribes, endless bureaucracy, and nepotism. This corruption has undermined citizen’s trust in government, led to trafficking young girls and guns, and resulted in unfair distribution of incomes country-wide.

Your donation will support Moldovan citizens as they join together with their neighbors to fight the scourge of corruption. Partners’ program brings citizens together with their local governments in community forums to monitor how well government officials are keeping their promises. Across Moldova, the program is empowering citizens in impoverished villages to get involved in local government affairs and demand that roads be repaired, hospitals staffed, and electricity supplied.
