Description:

Mon-Fri 5:00-6:00 pm

You will join the "I Have a Dream" team and make a difference in the life of a Dreamer. As you spend time with your student, you will watch him or her grow and develop. Participating in this process creates a sense of connection and achievement that is indescribably rewarding. Dreamers develop special relationships with their tutors and look forward to seeing them.

Tutors work with first and second-grade "Dreamers" teaching reading and writing. Training and supervision are provided by a certified master's level teacher. The goal is to help Dreamers develop the basic literacy skills necessary for academic success.

A typical tutoring session may include reading a book with the child and then having him or her do a short writing assignment related to the book's content. Tutors will learn to stimulate discussion about the reading. This helps the child develop comprehension skills and interest in the material. Educational games are also an important part of the curriculum.
