OVERVIEW OF SHANGHAI SOCIAL SERVICE VOLUNTEER CORP
The Shanghai Social Service Volunteer Corp, administered by Campus Earth, helps international volunteers find opportunities in Shanghai. You can help handicapped children and orphans, teach underprivileged children, or help needed seniors in Shanghai. We will arrange your stay and your placement in Shanghai, including your housing, insurance, etc. These programs are not-for-profit however we do ask volunteers to pay for their own room and board as well as a placement fee (see our website for details: http://campusearth.com/VolunteerAbroad/V_HOME.htm).

Stay from 1 week, to several months.
HELPING SENIORS
This CampusEarth.com program places volunteers into a China-based Abandoned Seniors Center. These Abandoned Seniors Centers are run by the Shanghai government and are a social welfare charity organization. The residents of these Abandoned Senior Centers have no family to support them or care for them, either because they have lost their children or because they are suffering from diseases so serious that their children are unable to support of them. Feelings of depression and loneliness are widespread in the centers and while certainly staff do their best to take care of them, the centers are often grossly understaffed. Often the residents of these centers are overwhelmed by the feeling that the world has forgotten them. We bring volunteers into these centers to making these elderly residents feel like someone cares about them.
