Description:
Dried fruit & vegetable initiative
Fearless Planet are working with the Ningo communities to initiate a fruit and vegetable drying program. Tomatoes, peppers and mangos grow abundantly in the area. The women have begun planting tomatoes and peppers on the land at the center, where Fearless Planet will be managing community cooperative production of a variety of food products for local and export sales.
Much produce is lost from spoilage in the hot sun while on its way to market, and vital income lost too. Drying will benefit growers and market women, and create a new product not widely available on the local market or exported from Ghana.
The volunteer(s)
Fearless Planet are looking for volunteers to research the feasibility of different drying techniques, from solar drying to gas drying. The potential volunteer would have to submit a design plan before he or she would be accepted for this programme.
