Description:
YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School provides out-of-school youth between the ages of 18-21 with the broadest range of tools, supports and opportunities available to become self-sufficient, responsible and productive citizens in their community. Through our 10-month program that emphasizes vocational training, community service and transition to post-secondary education,YouthBuild students earn a high-school diploma.
Academic Tutors provide academic/training instruction and assistance to high school students in a school setting.
Responsibilities:
-Work with students to reinforce skills in math, reading, and writing
-Assist and guide students in homework assignments
-In conjunction with paid staff, prepare instructional plans on student’s specific needs
-Communicate with Coordinator about student’s progress
Qualifications:
-Knowledge of basic math, algebra, geometry, reading, writing, and SAT material
-Patience, understanding, and enthusiasm
-Ability to work with diverse groups of people
-Interest in education and youth
-Commitment to on-going assignment (minimum: school semester or year)
-Ability to communicate knowledge well
-Respect for confidentiality
Minimum Age Requirement:
-18 years old
Time Commitment
-Minimum of one hour per week:
-During academic suport class Monday and Wednesday 10am-11am
-After school hours 3:30pm-5:30pm Mon-Wed
