Employer:

Wild Heart of CT

Job type:

Volunteer

Description:

Duration: This opportunity is a short-term commitment. We only need volunteers for part of the year. This project is open to volunteers from: mid spring – early autumn when the frogs are breeding.

Description:
Something’s gone wrong. It’s a little fishy, I mean frogy!
Get on your wildlife detective gear, and get ready to help Wild Heart and our affiliated organizations find out what’s happening to all the frogs. Scientists and Biologists alike, have a pretty good idea as to why frogs and toads all over America are declining. Help scientists conduct valuable research and find out the mystery to why they are disappearing forever!

Main Activities / Tasks:
As much as we try to make it sound like fun above, it really is a serious issue. Expect to conduct the following research tasks:
· Listen for frog calls
· Collect data
· Fill out and track data trends
· Become an expert of frogs and toad calls

Qualities / Experience / Skills Sought:
This may sound like a job for a neurosurgeon, but really anyone can conduct this research.
· Frogwatchers should be able to hear fairly well
· Keep track of collected data.
· Should have access to a computer with Internet.

Training:
Not all, but most of our research programs have training sessions. This is one of them that do. We usually hold two sessions a year, one in the early spring, and one in the early summer. Please check with your volunteer representative for the next training session. Can also be found on the event calendar on the Wild Heart Website under educational programs.

Availability:
As with most of our programs we don’t require that you volunteer a certain amount of time. To help keep our data accurate we do ask though that if you commit to this opportunity, that you conduct your research regularly, and quite consistently. The research has to take place in the early evening right around dusk, and may go a little ways into the night. (Depends on what time of the season you conduct your research on.)

Location:
Locations vary. The place of research is usually pretty close to your home. Some people even do it straight from their back porch on their house! The research must be conducted in a wetland area i.e. a lake, pond, vernal pool etc. You may have as many different locations as you want.
