Description:

InterExchange Working Abroad offers wildlife conservation volunteer placements in Kenya, lasting 2-4 weeks. You?ll be picked up from the Nairobi International Airport and will spend the first day and night in Nairobi for orientation. After that, you?ll be taken to the location of your chosen project. The Lion and Elephant project is located around the western Tsavo-West National Park, and the Elephant and Wildlife project is in the Amboseli National Park in Kenya. The Colobus Monkey Project is in the Kitobo forest in the southeast section of Kenya on the border with Tanzania, close to Tsavo-west National Park and within view of Mt. Kilamanjaro.

Sample projects include data collection, tracking and recording of elephants, monkeys and other wildlife species, and community development projects outside the park, such as building and working in schools and medical clinics.


Kenya Volunteer Projects Include:

* Lion and Elephant Conservation in Tsavo-West National Park
* Elephant and Wildlife Conservation in Amboseli Natioanl Park
* Colobus Monkey Project in the Kitobo Forest

All Volunteer in Africa Programs include:

* Housing in campsites and tents
* Meals provided by the project, but prepared by volunteers
* Airport transfer and all project-related travel
* Specialized training for each project from qualified staff, researchers and animal care specialists
* Bi-weekly access to email and phone facilities
* 24-hour support by our local partner

Accommodation varies according to project and location but typically includes thatched rondavels and camping (tents are supplied). Volunteers should bring a sleeping mat, a sleeping bag, and a mosquito net.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included (vegetarian and vegan options available). You may occasionally have to help with the preparation of breakfast.

Volunteer placements are open to U.S., Canadian, Australian, and European Union citizens. Applicants must:

* Be 18-50 years of age
* Be in good health
* Have a positive attitude and be willing to live/work as part of a team
* Enjoy working with animals and outdoor activities

Program Fee: $1,395 and up

The fee covers:

* Processing of your application and pre-departure assistance
* Airport pick-up and all local program-related transportation
* All meals and accommodation
* Training and assistance from highly trained game rangers and animal trackers
* Contribution to conservation and community projects
* Support from Working Abroad and our partner office in Africa
