Description:
Duration:
This opportunity is a long-term commitment. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to this program for at least 6-month intervals. If volunteers want they may stay with the program for more than just 6 months and can stay for as long as they would like.
Description:
In this day in age, children are glued to activities inside. Most of which are not very stimulating or educational. Park It is a new program that will offer school groups and families the chance to get out and have fun, while learning about the environment and or making a difference. Volunteers in this opportunity will, act as our program instructors. Volunteers will lead school groups of families in the projects and activities each program has to offer. An example of this would be leading a group of school children out to a beach in a park, and catching fish with nets. The children would record their findings and even learn a little bit about their catch. As a volunteer instructor you will lead the programs and also do some educating. This is going to be our most fun volunteer opportunity yet! It is new and is just starting and going to be a blast! This is Great for an Internship!

Training:
There is a lot of training for this volunteer opportunity. We will be posting a schedule shortly with the date and times. The training will teach volunteers how to run each program and the knowledge that each volunteer should know for the programs. Also we will teach you how to use the equipment and how to professionally interpret information to large groups. We will be training in various parks throughout the state of CT. Training sessions will probably run about 2-4 hours a week and will probably meet twice weekly through the beginning to mid summer.
Location:
There is no specific location. We will be training in various parks throughout Connecticut. Our programs will also take place in various parks throughout CT. However if we receive a large amount of volunteers throughout the state, then working in a location close to home, may be accommodated.
Availability:
Volunteers should have a pretty flexible schedule. This opportunity would be great for retired folks, students doing internships, or folks who are currently without a job and looking to do good for their community. Because we will be offering the programs to schools, availability throughout the day on week days is important, and availability on the weekends is also important as that is when our family programs will run. The more people we get to volunteer the easier it will be for scheduling. SO SPREAD THE WORD!
Miscellaneous Information:
Here are a few other things worth mentioning:
· Because you will be working with youth, volunteers must first undergo a background check, and will also be asked to be fingerprinted.
· You will be commuting. This is a new program, but we are working on getting it funded so that we can pay for traveling expenses.
