Academic Mentor / TutorLocation: Los Angeles, California, 90007, United States Expiration date: 2007-12-31 Job industry: Job function: Academic Mentor / Tutor Employer: Children Youth And Family Collaborative Job type: Volunteer Description:Children Youth and Family Collaborative provides students who have been identified as at-risk by their teachers, counselors or school administrators with academic mentoring. These are students who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who have been diagnosed with behavioral issues, are part of the foster care system or are underperforming academically in school. Volunteers are placed at one of our eleven schools and are assigned to a mentee. The role of the volunteer includes such areas as academic assistance, helping with the college application process, employment searching, and simply being a positive role model who builds positive character traits. We provide the volunteers with a training session, academic guidebooks, and other helpful resources. We also provide opportunities for our volunteers to attend special events that we organize and provide them with an end of the year Awards Banquet. The Centers for Academic Achievement and Enrichment are open from 9-5, Monday-Friday and volunteers are required to commit to two hours per week. We have site coordinators at each site who oversee the centers and are there to provide guidance and resources.
