Description:

The project will involve spending two weeks with an inner-city community arts school and centre, working with financially disadvantaged, as well as physically and intellectually disabled young people. Volunteers will deliver a creative arts programme while helping to create a more colourful and lively space for the children. Time will be spent exploring the issues facing financially disadvantaged communities and people with disabilities in developing countries. Volunteers will work alongside local people, and supported by The Great Generation staff and our expert partners, gain an in depth knowledge of the use of grass roots business and finance tools to alleviate poverty. Volunteers who take part in this project will also be able to take part in the colourful Diwali festival which coincides with our time there.

Who should take part in this project?

This project is open to all volunteers and is ideal for anyone who has a desire to experience life in India and work with children, especially children with disabilities. If you have skills in the creative arts, including puppetry-making, mask-making, painting, using recycled materials for art, as well as skills or experience working with children or in education, then you may be especially interested in this project. All volunteers have life experience, skills and knowledge which can be of value to a developing community and The Great Generation will look to utilise these experiences, skills and knowledge as much as possible in order to work with our expert partners and the local community to find creative solutions to meet local needs.
